Northrop Grumman computer analyst on earning her Security+ with Infosec

I’m a Computer System Analyst, more of an internal auditor. I audit different computer systems ensure that they’re in compliance. If folks come to audit our system within our department, I’m in charge of making sure that it’s taken care of, alongside vulnerability scanning and vulnerability management.

A lot of folks here are Security+ certified and, with working for a government contract, it eventually would be a requirement. I figured I should just get it done and not have it be an obstacle later.

Well, I know at least for the DoD government contract, I would definitely recommend that folks get one. Just knowing the language and proving that you’ve taken the exam, you studied, went through it — I think is helpful. Some companies just don’t have the budget for it. I can understand that. But I think it’s rewarding to get a certification in lieu of a degree, if you don’t want to do a degree, because at least a certification can help you in your career journey.

He’s awesome. I had West Goewey. He’s been teaching over 20 years or so, and he’s really great at taking tests. So he gave us a lot of exam tips. He told us what to look for and what to do and what’s going to be covered. I like that he was clean cut, you knew exactly what the exam objectives were and what you needed to study to pass.

Yes, I actually already have. One of my colleagues is taking it in a week or two. And I’ve referred two of my other colleagues, so yes, I would.

Continuous learning, don’t ever stop learning. Keep going, especially in the IT arena. It’s constantly changing technology. You got to keep up with the market, otherwise you’re stagnant.
